Hong Kong – A brief visit

We left Japan to Hong Kong. After 5 hours of flight we arrive in this megalopolis of thousand of skyscrapers. Hong Kong is an independent city-state like Singapore, located in southern China.

First impression when we got in the city, the heat! A hellish humidity that leaves your skin moist all day long. The air conditioning is everywhere and always at the maximum , the thermal shock is assured each time you come or go out somewhere. We can say that Hong Kong is like the New York of Asia, modern, urban, super westernized with fast food at every corner, and a large immigrant population, unfortunately without much personality.

But the city has everything to offer, sea, beaches, forests, bustling city center, super quiet and small islands, restaurants of all types of cuisine, mountains…

We spent 4 nights in a hostel in a busy area of the city. The first day we went to lose ourselves in a neighborhood full of traditional shops but unfortunately it was the first of May, so most of them were closed…

So we decided to take the train to go up to the hill to admire the best view of the city, it was so cloudy that we have seen absolutely nothing. Disappointed we went down again and took the ferry to visit the island in the district of Koloon to see the light show of the skyscrapers on the other side of the river. This is probably the number 1 attraction in Hong Kong.

The next day we visited another small island, at 1 hour by boat, a very nice place to relax, with beaches, temples, large rocks and a fishing port. We did 2:30 hiking, the sun was shinning, we had a lovely afternoon. In the evening we went to a night market and we had duck for dinner in a street restaurant.

The next day we went to very traditional neighborhood and one of the best attraction in Hong Kong (at least that was what our tour guide book were saying), but we were very disappointed, after seeing three temples not interesting at all, we went back to Hong Kong center to visit the market of flowers and birds and the Space Museum. Then we went to see a documentary film about animals on a giant screen inside a giant ball.

The last day we decided to do nothing and we rest a little before leaving in the afternoon to take our train to Beijing.
