South Africa – In the land of the lion king

After 13 hours flight we arrived at Johannesburg, where we were just waiting for our next flight to Cape Town. Arriving in Africa, in a totally new and different ambiance, gave us a lot of energy and excitement and we felt like going on vacation again.

We were welcomed at the airport by a Brazilian friend that lives in Cape Town with her husband, Lianna and Thomas. We went directly to their home, which had an amazing view to the ocean and to the city with the Table Mountain in the back, and we were blessed with a marvelous sunset! Perhaps the most beautiful we’ve seen so far.

During the next two days Lianna took us around the surroundings of Cape Town. We visited a wine farm in the charming Stellenbosch town that had a beautiful view to the grape fields and the mountains and where we did a delicious wine tasting. Finally we got to a place where we can have good and cheap wine! Woohooo!!!

We took the cable car to Table Mountain in a day without clear sky due to the clouds but we could see the view was amazing and it reminded us of Rio de Janeiro.

After we had a quick stop at Camps Bay for lunch and the beach had a very nice look with the rocks in the water and the mountains in the back, and from there we went to the famous Boulders beach were we saw a population of penguins that only exist in that region of Africa. They were super cute and we could admire them all day long.

Alexis was missing cooking a lot so we offered a nice dinner to Lianna and Thomas and for desert we did a delicious banoffee pie. Humm….
In our last day we went for a walk in the center, it was a rainy day and not so pleasant for sightseeing but anyway we could see the charming buildings of the center and the colorful houses of Bo-Kaap quarter.

We got really impressed with the natural beauty of Cape Town and its surroundings. So many amazing things to see and do just close to there… You can enjoy the beach, see whales, penguins and monkeys, swim with dolphins, admire amazing landscapes at the coast, walk in the mountains, visit wine farms… A wonderful country!

Tomorrow we leave for our overland tour through Africa, a adventure in a truck with other 18 people, where we go camping in the way to see the highlights of 6 different countries: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania. We are super excited!
