Hong Kong did not attract us so much. Perhaps because it lacks a unique personality to the country and also for being too westernized. It reminded us a little Singapore, also modern and organized, but not so clean as well. But even though the country has a lot to offer and can easily entertain you for a week.

Restaurants with cuisine from around the world, an impressive view to their oceanfront skyscrapers, bars and nightclubs, quiet islands, clear sandy beaches, green, mountains and shops for all tastes and pockets … But get ready for a hot and humid climate. You will sweat like a machine and prepare to have constant thermal shocks each time you enter and exit a place with the bombastic air conditioning!

What was worth it: The view from Victoria Peak (if the weather permits) and a walk around the small islands (Cheung Chau or Peng Chau).
What was not so paid off:The tour in Ping Shan Heritage Trail (the traces of history there are not that interesting and is in the middle of the developed city, which takes away all the charm).

A few tips:

  • TRANSPORTATION: There is a daily pass for the subway, but the cost is not sopaid-off (about 55 Hong Kong dollars) and only worth it if you will make a long displacement and will use it more than two times in the same day. The best option is to use the ferries, trams and buses, which are much cheaper and take you almost everywhere and you can still enjoy the view of the city.
  • PEAK TRAM: Climb Victoria Peak is certainly one of the best things to do in Hong Kong, because the views from there are amazing. But before you go try to see if the mountain is not covered by clouds, in which case you will be totally disappointed, exactly what happened to us. There is a round trip pass for the tram that is not so expensive, but you can also walk up and down, having a pleasant walk through the green, or you can take the tram up and descend by foot. Avoid holidays and weekends, where queues can take about 1 hour.
