Bolivia – Tupiza, the Far West land

We took another night bus, this time only 9 hours, towards Tupiza in the south of the country. Tupiza, at 3,000 meters altitude, looks like a far west land, as in the American films. The town is nothing special but the view of the huge mountains surrounding the city is simply stunning. A dry land with cactus and mountains of brown color in several different tones.

We stayed at a hotel right at the foot of a mountain, in a quiet place, but Carol was feeling very ill with diarrhea and fever, so we took the opportunity to rest for three days in the small town. Furthermore, we could already feel the effects of altitude and it was no longer so easy to breath.

In our hotel we met a young Australian, Jessica, with whom we spent a good time. We did a horseback ride together wearing our cowboy hats by the canyons near Tupiza. It was a jaw dropping ride, a gorgeous view all the way.

From there we wanted to go for a 4 day tour through the southern lakes and the famous Salar de Uyuni, the salt desert. But we needed to find people to share the tour to get cheaper. On the third day we finally found some people and we formed a cool group, 2 Israelis (Gal and Liad), two kiwis (Simone and Sharn), 2 Germans (Valentin and Katrin) and the Australian Jessica. We all went to dinner together and tomorrow morning we leave for the tour. We look forward to it!
