Overland Tour in Africa – Zambia, Malawi & Tanzania

Day 20, we left Livingston and went East, with our 12 new traveling companions, one Scottish girl, two Australians girls and nine Kiwis, we are now a group of 25, after few hours’ drive, we stopped to take a boat that takes us to a wild camp, where after a good barbecue, local people did their show with musicians, dancer and fire-breathing and everyone danced around the fire, nice evening.

Next morning we took a boat to visit a bush village, we learned their customs and lifestyles.

After, we hit the road and we stopped to pitch our tents in a campsite where zebras were eating grass at few meters from us.

Day 22, long day’s drive; we passed the border and left Zambia to enter in Malawi. Malawi is one of the smallest countries in Africa and also one of the poorest, 18 million people, life expectancy is only 42 years old and half the population is under 15 years old. People around here are really nice. The campsite is on the shores of the Lake Malawi where we stopped for three nights. Lake Malawi covers 1 fifth of the country, it is so big we can’t see the end of it, it really looks like it’s the ocean with its turquoise waters, sandy beaches and its waves.

We spent 2 relaxing days and partying too. Carol did some Brazilian caipirinhas drinks, the next day everyone wanted some too.

We went to visit the fishing village on the beach and the town market, for the first time we discovered the true Africa as we imagined.

Early the next morning we left for 2 long day’s drive, the first day 620km and 645km the next day. Ufa! Finally we get to our last stop in Tanzania. The tour finished here for us. We pitched the tents in Dar Es Salaam in a camp at the beach.
We spent our last evening with everybody, and we celebrated our farewell a lot!!

All others left the next morning to take a boat to the island of Zanzibar. We really wanted to go also but we have our flight to London in two days.
Tchao Africa, bye bye to all our adventurer friends, we really liked Africa we had an unforgettable experience, we met some incredible people and visited wonderful places. It was awesome!

    Adorei os relatos! Cada vez mais que leio sobre a África mais fico interessada.  É tranquilo mulher sozinha fazer o “overland’? Ao todo foram quantos dias de viagem?  Se não for indelicado, gostaria de saber a média do preço ou a empresa que vocês fizeram o pacote.
    Perdoem-me por tantas perguntas mas ano que vem faço 40 anos e quero comemorar em grande estilo.

      Tudo bem?
      Primeiro desculpa para meu português, não é perfeito ainda, se tem algo que vc não entende me avisa. :)
      Olha, pode fazer quantas perguntas que vc quiser, vamos responder sempre com o prazer de ajudar então fica a vontade.
      Nossa viagem na Africa foi com a Acacia, durou 30 dias mas vc pode começar e terminar a viagem onde vc quer. Nosso camião começou em Cape Town na África do Sul e a gente terminou na Tanzania em Dar Es Salaam mas na verdade o tour inteiro acabou so la no Egyto e durou 3 mêses e meio!!

      Mulher sozinha fazer o overland tour é super sussa, primeiro vc nunca fica sozinha, vai viajar com um grupo de até 25 pessoas vindo do mundo. O guia do tour ta sempre la com vc, dando todas as dicas e dúvidas necessarias. O tour te leva só nos lugares seguros. A gente se sentiu muito bem.
      Agora mulher viajando sozinha na África não é muito recomendado não. A gente conheceu uma Ásiatica que fiz e falou que África e os paises musulmanos sozinha foram os piores pra ela e que nunca mais vai fazer sem ser acompanhada.
      Orçamento: A África foi um dos lugares mais caro da nossa viagem até agora. A gente gastou 90,00 USD$ por dia e por pessoa. (tudo incluido) ainda foi acampando, cozinhando nossa comida e lavando o camião e a louça!! África é cara, mas ia ficar super complicado e demorado (e menos seguro) viajar overland sem tour. Então valeu cada centavo. A gente adoro, superou nossas expectativas!
      Super recomendado! Não vai se arrependar.

      A gente ta de volta no Rio de Janeiro pq vamos casar daqui a 2 semanas, depois em Dezembro vamos continuar a viagem pela america do sul e central.

    Xi.. acho que paguei mico.  Pela foto, vocês foram pela Acacia African Aventures, não? E a viagem durou 22 dias?
