We left the beautiful city of Lijiang to go to Kunming, and after 9 hours train we did one more time a 1 day short visit. We arrived at 6am and took a direct bus to visit the stone forest. 3 hours later we arrive in this sublime place that looks like a film set. Thousands of large rocks with different forms, rising into the sky like menhirs, the park is sensational but way too touristy. After being desesperate because we believed our passports had been stolen Carol remembered she put them in an another bag… And in the end we had a very pleasant afternoon …
We left Kunming in the same day in our next train, this time 19h trip to Guilin, from where we went directly to Yangshuo for 4 days, a charming town 1 hour from Guilin in southern China a few hundred km from Vietnam. Yangshuo is surrounded by limestone peaks and the scenery is breathtaking! Somehow resembling the landscape of northern Vietnam. The center of the city wasn’t so nice, super busy with many restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
We went first to explore the area, so we spent the afternoon in the small town of Fuli. And later Alexis had a Chinese cooking class. On the menu, fried porc with sweet and sour sauce, beer fish and fried eggplants, hmmmm …
The next day we went to Ping’an, at 3h by bus from Yangshuo to see the Drangon’s Backbone rice terraces in the mountains. Loved it! The views are breathtaking. The bad part is that we had only 2 hours to explore the terraces and we would like to stay much longer, but anyway we had a lovely walk there.
The last day we rented bikes and went to get lost on the roads along the Yulong River. And we really got lost… The way was horrible and there were no english signs… Welcome to Chia! Once again a breathtaking landscape. The place is well known by all Chinese as it appears on the chineses banknotes of 20. We also climbed the Moon Hill to see the view and it was so hot that when we reached the top we had lost three liters of sweat each…
We are now back in Hong Kong to get our flight to South Africa. Bye bye Asia, we will be soon on our way to another planet. We are super happy!
