India – Last stop in the holi waters of the Gange

From Orchha we did 5am train to arrive at Khajuraho, a small touristic town where there is beautiful temples decorated with sculptures representing the Kamasutra. These are the most beautiful temples that we have seen so far, although they are all very similar to each other, we were impressed by the richness of details of the art and sculpture.

We stayed in one of the best hotel that we had since the beginning of our journey, brand new, super clean, spacious, big bed, marble floor, flat screen TV with cable for only 6$ per night. The owners of the hotel were very nice, they took us on their motos (without helmets of course, is optional in India) to show us around their hometown. We watched the sunset from the top of the hill and visited the family home and tasted the fresh buffalo milk.

We met a spanish couple, Juan and Sonia, like us they are on the road for a while. For Juan’s birthday we went eating at a restaurant and our table was in a tree, nice night.

Then we continued are journey by night train and 11h later, we arrived at Varanasi, our last stop in India! Varanasi is a super chaotic city and certainly the dirtiest one we have ever seen in India and ever. Also very touristic, famous for its sacred waters of the Ganges. Varanasi is controversial, people love or hate it. Personally we liked! Especially the boat trip at sunrise on the Ganges. There you can see on the steps in the river side, cows, goats, ducks, cats, dogs, monkeys, people bathing, praying, meditating, washing their clothes , throwing garbage, we saw a dead cow floating, the dead are burnt and throwing into the water, children playing cricket and buffaloes bathing …

India extreme and unique. Incredible, surreal, magical!
We are now on our way to Nepal.
