We left Thailand to fly to Sri Lanka via Kuala Lumpur airport in Malaysia for a connection where we had to spend the night sleeping on the floor. It is at the capital Colombo we landed and we had to stay one night to go to the immigration office of India to do our Visa Application. We will know only in a week if we are allowed to go, suspense …
The next day we took the road by local bus (5h bus to do 220km) to the North to get to Anuradhapura the first Capital of Sri Lanka in the 5th century. There we rented bikes and went to visit the temples, we were a little disappointed because we have seen only stupas (monuments Budhiste giant bell-shaped) but we were lucky to be there on the holiday of full moon is a religious day in Sri Lanka for Budhistes and we saw a lot of pilgrims dressed in white thet came for the occasion.
Later in the afternoon Alexis had his bicycle tire burst and it started to rain just after, we found a place to fix it, the guy was very nice and introduced to us his all family, we had a great time.
Then we went to the center of the country in a city called Kandy, we stayed in a bad guest house but the family was super friendly and the vegetarian cuisine was full of vegetables we had never seen, it was delicious. The city is not so interesting but the lake is nice, we went to a show of Kandy tradictional dance and music .
We went to the countryside by bus to visit some Budhist temples. We had a walk between the temples and drove through a Muslim village where all people were super friendly and came to chat with us, they were happy to see us and so we were.
Alexis had an infection at his foot, he had to go to the hospital for disinfecting and to get prescription for antibiotics. The nurses wore very kitsch uniforms like in the 50′.
What we liked the most so far in Sri Lanka is the people, Sri Lankans are very interesting, cheerful, hospitable and very friendly, interesting also their way to dress.
