After we returned from the trekking in the mountains the weather had finally improved in Pokhara and for the first time we could see the mountains across the lake. So Carol decided to do paragliding. The experience was amazing with wonderful views, but included some vomiting from the sky. As usual Carol gets sick easily and have eaten a tuna sandwich right before flying was not a good idea. Hihihihi
The next day we left by bus to Kathmandu and when we arrived at the bus station at 7 am we had a surprise … We could see the Himalayas in the background. Just beautiful! We were happy to leave Pokhara with a chance of seeing that scene.
Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal, but it not even seems to be a capital, since it is the most underdeveloped that we have seen so far in Asia, with its dirt roads, crumbling buildings, streets without signaling, cars in a deplorable state and as the whole country has only 9-16 hours of energy per day! But Kathmandu was a good surprise, the old center and Durbar Square are simply amazing, with a chaotic charm and a architecture that stopped in time. Furthermore, it was a great place to have some Western cuisine, which we were missing so much. There you can find really great restaurants with delicious Western dishes at incredible prices. And in Nepal is common to find bakery and we discovered a cafe with a crappy look but that had amazing cakes (Snow Man Cafe) and went there every day. From the heaven!
One day we went by scooter to visit the ancient cities of Patan and Bakhtapur. We simply loved it! The two towns are super charming and also seem to have stopped in time. You can easily spend an entire day walking through the narrow streets just looking at the local’s routine. We ended our day visiting the Boudha stupa, a temple with an important religious meaning where devotees will pray and do several turns around the stupa.
Now we prepare to change radically our trip, leaving underdeveloped Asia for super modern and developed Asia. Next stop: Tokyo! We are super excited … It seems like we’re going on vacation again. Hehehehe!
