After 18 hours flight, a connection in Hong Kong and 14 hours of jet lag, we finally arrived in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia (20 million habitants). The Lonely Planet guide started like this: “It’s hard to like Jakarta.” And it’s true! The city is chaotic, the traffic is like hell, there is a lot of pollution, dirt all around, it is quite complicated to move around and has not much to see. But for us it was worth it as we took the opportunity to visit friends from Switzerland (Dan, Galina and Andre) and we could even get around in the town with Dan’s driver. The highlight of the city is the people. Smiling, happy, friendly and always willing to help, what influences your experience completely! In the Monas monument we were approached by a group of 30 children and ended up turning the tourist attraction of the place. You had to see their happiness to take a picture with us. Sensational! We visited the largest mosque in Asia, which holds up 200.000 devotees during Ramadan. We also took the opportunity to try the local cuisine and we ate with our hands, as they do here. Now we leave in 7 hours by train to Jojakarta, the historical and cultural center of the island of Java. We are very excited!
